I am not going to sit here and lie to you, or even say that I have been a fan of Lil B, because to tell you guys the truth I was never really into Lil B’s music or his movement. At one point I thought he was the joke of Hip-Hop. But this all changed after he announced the title of this album, I’m Gay (I’m Happy), a few months back during one of his sets at Coachella.
After his announcement The Based God went on and got criticized by most of the Hip-Hop world. In the mean time he was cooking up something not only special but classic (no pun intended). I do not want to get in to every detail about I’m Gay because I genuinely want you, the reader/listener, to sit down listen to every word he says. Not only are the lyrics great, the production is on some other level.
Lil B is a genius for coming out with the concept. Everything makes sense and falls into place; from the cover art (which is probably the best cover art so far this year and many years to come), to the lyrics and an even greater production. He has changed my views on him as an artist. Well done Based God, you just gained another fan.
If you don’t take my opinion serious then maybe Lupe Fiasco’s opinion will be a bit more relevant.
One more thought I will add is about this little theory I have. My theory is that Lil B made all of that nonsense music just to get everyone’s attention, and to have people on that “I wonder what he is going to do next” mentality, so he could just drop I’m Gay and infect the masses. Whether he planed all of this out from the beginning or not, in my opinion he deserves props and even better, respect.
I streamed the entire I’m Gay (I’m Happy) album for you guys to listen to. I made each song available for download just incase you enjoy it. So go ahead and take a listen below. I would like to know your thoughts, whether good or bad.
